Who this is for

Very often this is an adult child whose parent is in the hospital, recovering at home, or starting to need more help. The family has decided on a power of attorney and needs it prepared and signed this week, without taking the parent anywhere.

It can also be someone planning ahead for themselves, a person about to travel or deploy, or a family arranging help for someone in custody. In every case, the person giving the power signs, and they must understand and want to sign it.

What the service covers

Deanna Wilson, a registered and bonded Legal Document Assistant, prepares the power of attorney document you have chosen, using the names and instructions you give her. Then Marcie Ramirez, a California Notary Public first commissioned in 2003, comes to the signer to notarize it.

  • Preparation of the power of attorney document you choose, at your direction
  • A check of names, spellings and pages before printing
  • Notarization at the signer's location in San Diego County
  • Each additional notarized signature at $15

What to have ready

  • The document you have chosen and the instructions for it. Deanna cannot choose the type of power of attorney or decide what powers it gives.
  • Full legal names of the person giving the power and the person or people receiving it.
  • A current government issued photo ID for the signer, such as a driver license, state ID card or passport.
  • The name on the document should match the name on the signer's ID.
  • The signer must be alert, understand what they are signing, and be willing to sign it. The notary will speak with the signer directly.
  • Do not sign before the appointment. The signer signs in front of the notary.
  • If the signer is in a hospital or facility, the unit and room number and a good time to visit.

How it works

  1. 1

Tell Deanna what you want prepared

Call (619) 345-0006 or book online. Tell us which document you have chosen, who is involved, and where the signer is.

  2. 2

    Deanna prepares the document

She prepares it at your direction and checks every page.

  3. 3

    Review it before the signing

The signer, or the person helping them, reads it over. Anything that does not match your instructions gets corrected.

  4. 4

    Marcie comes to the signer

At home, in the hospital, or at a care facility. She checks ID, confirms the signer is aware and willing, and notarizes the signature.

Questions

Power of attorney preparation with Doc Prep & Notary Services starts at $150, and each additional notarized signature is $15. We confirm your price before any work starts.

We cannot answer that. Choosing a document is a legal decision, and Deanna is a Legal Document Assistant, not an attorney. If you are unsure, please ask an attorney. Once you have decided, Deanna can prepare the document at your direction.

No. The person giving the power signs it themselves, and they must be aware of what they are signing and willing to sign. If your parent cannot understand the document, a notary cannot notarize their signature, and you may want to speak with an attorney about other options.

Yes. Marcie notarizes at hospitals and care facilities across San Diego County. It helps to ask the nurse when the patient is usually most alert and schedule the visit for then.

Yes. Book a mobile notary or hospital notary appointment instead. Bring the complete, unsigned document and the signer's ID.
